The Quilting Season

Buddy's Fabric Contest Fall 2009:
Sometime in late summer/early fall, we
received a shipment of fabric, with one
bolt being a sale bolt of Moda. It was
especially intriguing, being an unusual
combination of rusty-mauve colors that
seemed especially challenging. Once we
discovered that Buddy, our shop dog, had
actually ordered this bolt - it was his very
first fabric choice - we decided to do
something special. Thus, the first Buddy's
Fabric Contest was born. We're not sure if
there will be any future contests like this,
but you never know!
15 adventurous souls turned in
projects made from Buddy's fabric. The
contest rule was simple: take the fabric &
do something (anything) with it.
Entries fell into these categories:
wall hangings & quilt blocks & miniature
quilts; purses & totes; sewing implement
holders; pillowcases; a braided mat; & a
child's garment (matching top & slacks
w/applique & bias trim). Skill level of the
contestants ranged from professional to
highly experienced art quilter to regular
quilter to beginner level.
Gertraud Reynolds was the contest
winner and received a $20 gift certificate +
one of Buddy's special chocolate dog
bones. All other participants received
chocolate dog bones as well: Anne Wright,
Dawn Dull, Deborah Schmidt, Kat
Campau, Kathy Day, Marlene Carron, Mary
Ann Sweet, Mary Brake, Mary Hogan, Nhi
Torres, Norma Weems, Sally Regan,
Shelley Lackey, & Yessant Habetz.

We're amazed & impressed with the
